The trailer for House of Gucci, and today Hung Up feels comfortable making a declaration: this will be “the most important movie of our time,” since the previous “most important movie of our time” (A Star Is Born). Here are assorted thoughts about the trailer:

1. Someone in H*llywood has been on a tear lately, digitally replacing every man’s brown eyes with blue eyes. I feel particularly targeted by this, since the affected men are those I happen to care about or be cursed by: Robert De Niro in The Irishman, Timothée “Homeland, Homeland, which turned into dome-land” Chalamet, and now Adam Driver. 

2. Now, you can try to reason with me (do not) that “Hunter, those men all had blue eyes in real life.” To that I say: movies are not real life, movies are about illusions. I can accept that Vin Diesel is not the same height as John Cena; I can accept that Adam Driver’s character’s eyes are blue, but that Adam Driver’s eyes are brown.
