It’s The Slap day 739 here on Hung Up. Some days I’m like: “I literally cannot hear one more word about Will Smith slapping Chris Rock.” And other days I’m like: “But you know what … let’s hear one more word about it … because the racism is jumping out and I’m taking notes!!!!” Today is the latter.

The entertainment newsletter The Ankler has a ten-point screed condemning Will Smith, the AMPAS, ABC, Vanity Fair, Reese Witherspoon (?) — basically condemns everything but the Dolby theater itself. “This is not something there was any road map for, and in the heat of battle, with many fraught issues and Chris Rock (Hollywood's Zelensky) not wanting to press the issue, I'd like to say I would've been firm and decisive, but I can see in the moment how a well-intentioned person would freeze. It's not ideal, but life comes at you fast.”
