February subscriber playlist

The z at the end of “jamz” is completely justified because both Joe’s “I Wanna Know” and “Love in this Club” is on this playlist. My favorite love song of all time — “Think of Me As Your Soldier” is here, plus one of my favorite songs, period: “Another Life,” by D’Angelo. I’m not even sure if that’s a love song, honestly, but it feels like love to me.

I felt like the playlist was a little ballad-heavy at the top, so I substituted “Lover for Life” for “You Give Good Love,” because the playlist isn’t happening without a Whitney song. One song on here is for my mother (“Whip Appeal” by Babyface, because it was either that or a Kem song). What else: Gladys Knight and the Pips’ “Feel Like Making Love” because I still just cannot get over that song, an Aretha demo, “Agape” from Beale Street, and fuck it: “The Most’” by Miley Cyrus.

The temptation to finish the playlist with Nina Simone’s “Just in Time” was so powerful but I resisted. Lol. 👶🏻🫵🏻❌🛫
