The Safdie brothers made Uncut Gems (2019), a movie about a six-way parlay Celtics-Sixers game, Celtics to cover. Celtics halftime. Garnett points and rebounds, Garnett blocked shots, Celtics opening tip. That movie was frenetic and lovely and still one of my favorites ever. But it cannot compete where it does not compare: In 2022, Julia Fox said the words “Uncuh Gehyms,” a complete reimagining of the form — movie titles, diction, speech — that has become its own separate entity. “Uncuh Gehyms” has really nothing in common with Uncut Gems, except that both star Julia Fox.
