I feel about Amsterdam the way Aaron Sorkin felt about 1Oak: “I just needed to see what went on there.” Sorkin lasted thirty minutes. I lasted all two hours and 14 minutes, give or take me leaving halfway through the credits (more on that later).
I had to know what this movie, and its incomprehensible but unavoidable trailer, was all about. In case you have a life but have the same curiosity, I wrote this for you: a guide to Amsterdam for everyone who is too busy for it, but mostly for fans of her majesty Tree Paine and Robert De Niro, and I’m counting myself as servants of both. I wrote this Q&A style — writing some questions for myself by myself — and solicited some from the Hung Up Chat (fka Thread) on the Substack app.
