I love that you are Bday hive. As a Beyonce scholar, I will always maintain we wouldn't have Lemonade without that album, nor would we have the full visual album of self-titled without it. It's still a tragedy we don't have a full-length video for Kitty Kat.
I feel terribly rude correcting anything in such a perfectly-prosed review, but ‘sweet dreams’ is a product of Sasha fierce. (It’s the virgo in me that made me do it.) Thank you for transporting us with your words!
Beautiful review. I respectfully disagree with your reductions of YaYa and American Requiiem, but this was gorgeously written and resplendently nuanced.
So well written! And yes, B'day forever - love the 60's vibe of the Bardot hair on the cover/Get Me Bodied video/Dreamgirls cross-promo. Justice for suga mama!!!!
Love this! I instantly perk up when anyone writes an in depth review of Bey’s work. I love Cowboy Carter and always feel like a party of one when someone else doesn’t appreciate it! And B’Day is one of her top albums to me. Get Me Bodied is my version of Back That Azz Up lol
such an amazing piece 🙌🏽 20 years of Naughty Girl blew my mind. completely agree with you about American Requiem sounding like it’s from 2004! always here for your singular observations that ring so true
I couldn’t put my finger on it, but that is such an apt description. I, however, found myself loving that about it. It was nostalgic on an album that was so steady in its delivery of looking back and looking inward, planted roots but growth at the crown. And that time period is very ‘When She Arrived’ from her girl group departure. The song fed me as reminiscent of a bygone era.
Beyoncé is a genius but so is the Lyft brand manager that got budget to send Hunter to night 1!!!
"Lyft Ev'ry Voice and Sing" now miss Hunter!!!
🤓 what did usher say … if im gonna tell it then i gotta tell it ALL!

She could totally do Suga Mama too on that bronco!!
agree completely and also i want to hear her remix beautiful liar and world wide woman in some way
But the video we do have?!! 😻
if anything that it makes more tragic, cause the peep that is peeped?? gawjuss!!!
Why but WHY is no one talking enough about Tyrant??????
She definitely gives it its due on the tour! 🐂
whew! one of my faves on the album.

argh of course - fixing!!
Perfectly-prosed is the word for it!
I can't believe this is how I find out you're from Oklahoma...
yes 😌🤠
That Thanos line is corny but does it really beat this line in "Sandcastles": "Dishes smashed on my counter from our last encounter"
it's the cringiest part of a very cringey song lol

Justice for SUGA MAMA!!!! That song in Beyoncé’s current singing voice would be TRANSCENDENT!
Ugh this is so gorgeously gorgeously written!!
Bey has always been vocal about being a Texan so it's always annoying when people act like she isn't country
pedal so heavy like the 2 most wanted!!!! 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️

I think Get Me Bodied is my most favorite song of hers on a very long list of favorite songs! How can you not move to that song??
Exactly! Makes me get out of my seat every time!

The way I don't know you but saw this and was like "Me and Hunter were at the same show and didn't run into each other?? Nooo!"
Love your writeup of this. What a fucking show she puts on, on so many levels.
AND LITERALLY JUSTICE FOR BDAY BECAUSE WHERE IS GREEN LIGHT????
Thank you for telling the truth about Ya Ya 🙏 genuinely though, fantastic review, so excited to see her in a couple weeks!!
Agreed! I'm going in a couple weeks as well! With my son- can't wait!!!
I love YaYa but now can’t stop seeing the exact commercial in my head
