the thing that struck me most this episode — it’s very obvious but i think still worth mentioning — is this entire season i’m like “oh my god these kids (read grown ass adults) are so ridiculous and self important and think they have so much power and they don’t”
then this episode i’m like “lol oh right it’s because they do, one stupid decision and the state of the world goes bonkers.” i think it’s a brilliant on the showrunner’s part to have so much of this season be the kids bumbling around in their little waystar royco play pen and then zoom out to show this isn’t a play pen it’s a war room and even me, the viewer, has forgotten it
That episode’s stress level brought me back to season 1 with Kendall trying to get the board vote and running through Manhattan.
Speaking of baby girl, I did love when he told Tom to “fucking watch it”. I’m a sucker for Kendall sticking up for his siblings. But then he turns around to learn he was betrayed by Shiv. OOF.
lol I just got a mental picture of that video of olivia wilde, mark ruffalo, and michael moore chanting outside trump tower, except they’re at ATN headquarters desperately trying to rhyme “wisconsin” with “mencken”
there was some all time face acting in this episode. the back and forth between kendall and shiv through the conference room glass when he finds out she’s been lying? *chefs kiss*
Could not stop laughing at “It just makes an election so much more interesting when you’re in it.” 100 mil so well spent by Con. Sincerely hope he and Willa escape America’s death of democracy and get to enjoy Euro life in one of the SLOs.
"I wonder how long he’ll hold his side of that deal." THIS. When Jeryd said that thing about democracy being transactional, I was like, ohh he might not be a straight shooter like Roman assumes he is. He might screw them.
Now, this is definitely on point: "She’s so craven and broken that he interprets it as another play — and it kind of was!" First of all, the timing of Shiv's "apology" to Tom was manipulative AF - as he's dealing with 5 crises at once. When Tom didn't bite, I turned to my husband and said - she's gonna tell him about the pregnancy to try and manipulate him again. and BOOM. He has no reason to believe anything that comes out of her mouth.
What I don't understand are all the Shiv apologists out there trying to act like she didn't bring all this on herself. I'm so very sorry if your girlboss is in trouble but wow is she fucking bad at this game. Everyone is like Roman is a monster, Ken is spineless. But at least Roman makes no bones about who his guy is - it's evil, but not shady.
As for Ken, I think Shiv fucked up so badly in that very intimate convo with him. He gave her an opening to come clean/be honest and vulnerable with him. He might have even forgiven her betrayal if she'd worked with him to find a way to get Nate to agree to tank the deal - like she could've leaked his funny India numbers to Nate, which would've been enough for Gil's team to agree to help tank the deal. And then she also gets to save the country cuz Ken would've sided with her and walked back the Wisconsin call. And yet she chose to stick with a shady Swede who hasn't promised her shit!! COLOSSALLY bad decision-making.
Roman is definitely getting fucked by Mencken. Logan used to make promises to him and snatch them away all the time. He literally died doing that to Roman. Old habits are hard to break. Roman thinks he’s above the grief but he was looking for a new daddy and found him.
Kendall keeps telling Rava that everything he does is for his kids, then actively calls the election for a man who will make the world worse for his kids all because Shiv lied....
Our girl is down bad this episode all to her own doing. This might be the lowest she's ever been. I don't know how we recover with only 2 episodes left.
