Joe Alwyn, devoted Hung up readers will recall, is of particular interest to this newsletter. His occupation is not “actor,” but muse. He suffers from what doctors (me) call “Joe Alwyn disease,” or, he “has so much natural charisma yet no one seems to be able to affix any of it on film.” He was forgettable in Boy Erased, memorable only as the blonde who wasn’t Nicholas Hoult in The Favourite. If I could erase anything from my mind it would be the absolute disaster that was Hulu’s Conversations With Friends adaptation, a 9/11 for mousy, bookish brunettes — y’all not coming back from that the same way.
