I believe the one thing *tech* and *private equity* has ruined completely is online culture. Niche communities and people who just like oddities just doesn't exist anymore like it did even a decade ago.. You used to be able to get on your big family computer and scroll the internet for hours seeing forums and poorly made websites about every interest you had and the people making them cared. Was it important? maybe not. did I hang on to every word? absolutely. Thats why, you (and club chalamet I fear) are one of the last great American dynasties. Indulgent for sake of indulgence. This newsletter feels like one of the few places left online where someone cares about things that don't matter passionately.
one time I asked you on twitter to re-share a tweet about mads mikkelsen laying pipe and you did and i thought, yeah, that's the woman i'm following into battle
i will always! i think about that tweet all the time ... "laying the type of pipe that will have you tattooing the date and time yall fucked over your heart" .. period
Congrats!! This is the one place where I can talk shit on all things pop culture with my fellow Hungies. No one else in my life gets it 😂 so I love it here!
you’re the blueprint Hunter! literally the reason I (and i’m sure so many others) started writing on substack x thank you for sharing your gift with us! 🙂↕️✨
Congratulations Hunter!! You’re the reason I first downloaded Substack and the Hung Up community is so funny and smart. I look forward to the newsletters, the emergency posts and the chats. The LIB chats got me through post partum 💕
Hunter ur an icon 🙏 Ty for making an online space where I can feel seen and chat w the hungies despite v few of my irl pals even knowing who Tree Paine is!!!!!!!!
I haven’t been around as long as some but I’ve been here longer than others. I lurk more than I comment. I’ve enjoyed your writing before, during and what comes next.
You have conversational tone that never sounds above the audience. It never feels like I’m reading an article (in the best way possible). I don’t expect anything from Puck to use your tone because it would be weird and inappropriate?
I wish I had irl friends [to talk about your substack]. Your emails make me feel like I can pretend we are friends. You write the way I always wished I could.
Congratulations! I remember when you announced you were leaving Vulture and taking this leap of faith. So happy and proud it’s been such a smashing success!
Congrats!! But I have to add re: Joe Alwyn, I forced my mom to watch the Eras movie when she came to stay with me after my cat died, and although she was mostly fascinated with the staging logistics (she majored in theater management), I also had to go through some Swift lore, I was like, so you've seen him in a lot of movies but you won't remember. She looked him up on IMDB and was like, yes, I don't know this man. The bonus: she made my dad, an actual Swift fan due to her prevalence on spin class soundtracks, finally watch the movie. Still waiting for his review.
Congrats Hunter!! I never comment here but I'm always reading EVERY newsletter (and asking my friends to read it too), and also reading the comments lol (I love the "highlights from the chat" you do after awards ceremonies!). I've been a free subscriber since launch and a paid subscriber for a year now, and I'm forever a Hung Up stan. I love your writing, the one lines that are stuck in your mind, the hyperlinks, the funny obsessions (why do I now care when spike lee is wearing glasses??), everything about leo season. I hope Hung Up keeps on being fun to you forever.
edit: I meant martin scorsese glasses but mixing them up is too funny so I'll just leave it lol
