Distracting myself in the parking lot of the vet after putting my cat Winter down I see this Ref email: RIP WINTER. Obvs selling linen dresses when it was definitely not even close to spring

the Clubhouse craze feels so long ago now lol the only person i ever knew who actually used it was a woman who my company hired as a freelancer to lead a project i was working on, and talking to her felt like meeting a real, true Girl Boss in the wild. once, on a zoom call, i mentioned that i have a lot of jaw tension and she sent me a link to a Vogue article she wrote about the practice of “primal screaming” and why it’s so good for our health

she kindly offered to get me invited to Clubhouse and i kindly did not take her up on it. miss her so much 💗

and if you think i didn't just google that vogue article bc i'm nosy ... happy to learn that lady's website advertises her as having "a black belt in truth-telling"

I lasted 48 hours on clubhouse. It felt invasive ... I don't want all those voices coming out of my phone

as someone who has been working for dtcs for the past like 4 years, they’re allllll leaning into this weird superiority schtick rather than banking on anything actually original … late stage capitalism teas… and onward we go..!

Clubhouse was a fever dream I’m glad we woke up from. Lakeith Stanfield moaning in the moaning competition room was it’s death knell 😂

omg the moaning room ... were we ever so young 😭 didnt jayz have a clubhouse moment once or was that twitter spaces?

I vaguely remember that, but not the platform 😂 the celebrities were really losing their minds in their mansions/private isolation islands and just HAD to speak to us

I was thereeeee clubhouse was fun and wild at the same time lol

It was so wild! I can’t wait for someone to write a dissertation on the sociology of Clubhouse during pandemic isolation 😂

she's not a bad model (but that shoot is definitely under-produced) but it struck me as very empty. very noah centineo saying 'it matters not what you do but what you do with what you've done - for others' with a few register to vote links sprinkled in

Holy shit I forgot Noah Centino existed

I never receive an email from Reformation without thinking of that Hung Up post.

They occupy a strange space. Some of their clothes are flirting with dowdy and frump town, and others are very “I have breasts and thighs, you should stare at them.” But if I wear one of their dresses out with my husband, he almost always compliments it, which is not typically the case.

they do a few specific things very well! but now it's at the point where i dont want to wear a ref dress to a wedding or formal event bc at least three other women will be wearing it too

The clothes aren’t “very Ann Klein.” Monica Lewinsky is shaped like a regular human—not a Reformation waif. All Reformation clothes are basic on normies—we just fool ourselves into thinking otherwise.

She’s 50 years old. I just don’t think Reformation’s demo is 40+

You’re right, a lot of it is very much not 40+, but I do wear some of it and fall into that age group.

The other piece of the Ann Klein comment that gave me the squicks was the ageism component of it.

is anne klein's demo any older than the limited, loft, banana republic? these are all mall brands that make business casual clothing, which is what that ref campaign is: suits, blazers, pencil skirts, sheath dresses. it is weird for a brand primarily known for titty tops and wedding guest dresses and 'do it for leo' tops about the environment to suddenly mimic office wear. i dont think any of this is about ref's age demo but more the vacuous political statement of 'go vote!!!'

To me Anne Klein does feel older than those other brands, but they all skew older anyway.

The “go vote” sentiment does feel vacuous, and I also think Monica is not the right choice for that sentiment. But if they did a campaign focused on something like the second life for the materials used in it, even a “their past doesn’t define them,” it would fit with her. I feel a lot of empathy for her, to be clear, I just don’t associate the need to vote with her.

you should work for ref lmao — second life of materials is a very fun idea that actually makes sense. i hadn't considered that maybe it rubbed me the wrong way bc i dont think of monica as a necessarily political person? her platform is anti-bullying

Not that it matters but - I think this is a case of mistake mall/midlife brand identity. I think we're talking Ann Taylor. Not sure Anne Klein still exists but it did have a good lion logo at one point.
