My late mom was beautiful, charming, smart as hell and most impressively she was 6 feet tall. It’s got to be Geena Davis in my biopic. My dad is an affable short king, hippie turned CEO. Maybe Steve Zahn in 20 years worth of age makeup?
My dad also subscribes to hung up because of me - he answered Steve Martin to play him. And who is to play my mother who he has been divorced from for almost 15 years?! Honestly I would love to say Diane Keaton because she always quotes ‘because I said so’ from her favorite movie ‘because I said so’. But so many people have already said Diane, so I’ll have to go with Cher but specifically a grown up version (mid 60s) from Cher in moonstruck
Ben Stiller would absolutely be my dad, for the sole reason of how much they look alike. One time I saw him in real life and my first thought was literally "dad?!"
My mom would probably be a young Cheers/Frasier era Bebe Neuwirth lol
disclaimer: my parents are both korean american, but my father has specifically asked for andy garcias haircut in the past and i can kind of see a similarity between them. lady bird struck a very specific nerve with me because laurie metcalfs performance was the first time i saw my moms intensity, warmth, scrutiny and fury on screen.
love this reflection about lady bird. i feel like so many people were turned off of that performance because there was no clear redemption scene of mom and daughter hugging together, the last time we see marion she's like crying driving away from the airport. which made it even more special to me!
totally! that scene made sense to me, and how mothers and daughters (especially at that age) make up on their own time, because they each have their own pride and emotions to contend with.
My dad would be played by James Earl Jones (yes I know he's dead, him and my dad have that in common lol) and my mom would be played by Jackee Harry.
James Earl Jones is who I tell everyone my dad looked like both young and old, as in darker in his youth and v pale in his old age. Their resemblance was pretty uncanny, right down to my dad's name being Earl. Jackee looks enough like my mom, but she crucially her roles have had the same energy as my mom. Boisterous, loud, funny, helplessly fawning over men.
Just want to say, amazing question. I have never given this one moment’s thought, so I’m super-impressed by all of you who have. I will say, when my dad was drunk, he was alarmingly like Jimmy Stewart in Harvey.
Lol racking my brain and for their 60’s, I’d say Spencer Tracy dad and Julie Andrews mom?! But in the late 80s and 90s my mom was def brunette Princess Diana 🥹
My usual answer is no one because Filipinos are never on screen. 😄 My other answer is Dolly De Leon & Jon Jon Briones mostly because they should be in more things.
Diane Keaton mom, Larry David dad, and all that comes with them both
yall gonna keep Diane booked and busy!! 🙂↕️
Diane Keaton mom shoutout!!
Another Diane Keaton mom shout-out!
Larry David dad shoutout!!

oh steve zahn, a king among men. i love this

not a dad reading hung up!!! 😭

Kathy Najimy cross-racially cast as my mexican mom for the undiagnosed adhd vibe, Charles S Dutton as my dad for dignity with an undercurrent of rage
if this movie was set when I was in my 20's
my mom- Kate Winslet
my father- Payman Maadi (from Farhadi's film A SEPARATION)
if set when I was a teen
my mom- Abbie Cornish
my father- Amir Jadidi (from Farhadi's film A HERO) or Shahab Hosseini
in short, a British or Australian actress who could play to my mom's cool-without-trying, Anglo humor, and her chill
and a handsome Iranian man to play my dad who can channel both his seriousness and his nice charisma
why was this hard to think of and why did I spend so much time choosing lol
ooh i've never seen a hero, adding it to my watchlist now!
It is really good!

idk how well she can act but Alicia Keys for my mom maybe? ooh or maybe Maya Rudolph?
Colman Domingo for my dad! Though if my mother had her say she’d probably pick Denzel lmfao.
mom picking denzel is valid as hell lmao. alicia did a thing or two in secret life of bees!
Physically Tom Cruise personality Borat for my dad 😭
"personality Borat" 💀
George Lopez and Molly Shannon
Two names I never expected in the same sentence
This is my favourite game!!!!
Harrison Ford as dad
Dawn French as mum
Further consideration required for step parents
Can Britney Spears play me

oh so i'm obsessed with your mother, that's what i'm getting from this!!!

But nowhere near as good-looking.
Sally Fields and Chris Cooper
